Today, we are incredibly excited to announce that, in partnership with Microsoft, Ionic templates are now available in Visual Studio.
3/8/2016 Update: We’ve changed the links below to the official Ionic VS templates created by Microsoft. Quick link
When Microsoft added Apache Cordova Tools into Visual Studio, we knew that Visual Studio was going to become one of the best ways for Windows developers to build hybrid mobile apps. With easy dependency install that fetches Node, Cordova, and Android automatically, and fast debugging with Ripple, it’s quickly becoming our preferred Ionic development environment.
With the addition of Ionic templates in Visual Studio adding fast UI and AngularJS to your Cordova apps is even easier. To get started, just search in the Visual Studio Gallery for “Ionic” and start a new project with the official Visual Studio Ionic Templates
All of us at Ionic are incredibly excited to have first-class support for Cordova and Ionic apps in Visual Studio, and hope that all Windows-based Ionic developers give it a try. Plus, the Community Edition of Visual Studio is totally free, so there’s no reason not to!
We will be expanding the variety of Ionic templates available to developers in Visual Studio over time, so please let us know what you think about the current templates and what you think we could do better!

Will be more useful if it is applicable for latest visual studio code (https://code.visualstudio.com/) as “VS Code” can be installed on all platforms including windows, mac and linux.
Now I see why Max was tweeting about using Visual Studio a few weeks ago
OW MY FUCKING GOD!
Microsoft is back….throwing my mac away now.
i’m pretty sure you can throw your mac to me. lol
Oh sorry, i totally forgot about it: #sarcasm
You do not need to throw away your mac. Now Microsoft is cross platform! I am loving it!
Listen to me and I will explain to your sarcasm…
lol
Hashtag fanboi lol
Macs seem to always think they are superior because brushed aluminum.
LOL
Windows phone support soon?

Thanks. 🙂 With Windows Phone Support, IONIC will be a SUPER framework.
how to use it with crosswalk?
Does this work with Crosswalk?
it does not support for VS 2013 community
This is a real bummer. Is there a version list? I have VS2013 Community currently and can confirm that I got a failure when trying to create a new project.
We will not support 2013 at all. Since 2015 is almost out in a stable release, and is free, there is no reason for us to do so at this point.
I actually got a template up and running in VS 2013 Community, but I’m getting a lot of errors with plugins, “require not defined”, “module not defined” within plugin files, etc. Is this because of the VS 2013 compatibility issue or because of something else? I’m happy to upgrade if it fixes these problems.
p.s. upgraded to VS 2015RC and now can’t even start a new project – “The project type is not supported by this installation.” — like many others have reported.
FIXED – have to do a custom installation and enable crossplatform development support. You can do this post facto by relaunching the installer and selecting only the components you need to add.
Still trying to find a good way to test with plugins!
Hi Marc. Maybe this will come in handy
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/saqib/archive/2015/08/19/making-ionic-apps-run-on-windows-phone-using-visual-studio-2015.aspx
Can you guys post a guide to getting an app with at least one plugin working in Visual Studio, with complete dev environment details, etc? I have a hard time believing anyone has actually accomplished this, since I have seen only posts about VS failures. Would love to use this but thus far I am convinced that it is not yet really ironed out.
My favourite IDE, combined with my favourite Mobile App framework… this is just too awesome for words.
Awesome . can’t wait to try it . Thanks
Could you please add support for VS 2013 ?
I think that the side menu template would be great ?
If you could have a template that follows John Papa Angular Guideline it would be really awesome : https://github.com/johnpapa/angular-styleguide
I’m using it inside Visual studio community version. It’s feel is amazing.
How did you get this to work? I get a failure when installing the template from the Online gallery…
solved this by installing apache cordova tools 3.1. however, have not been able to successfully build an Ionic project with plugins in VS2013 Community, and haven’t been able to open a new Ionic project in VS2015RC at all.
Does not work on windows phone 8.1 emulator 🙁
The app does not even run. Anyone got it running ?
i’m trying to figure what happened, the phone can’t run them either (same issue, just close rigth after open it) android emulators and phone runs perfect
also, cordova apps works on win 8.1 emulator, ionic is the one exploding
Best of all!!! there’s not competitor for Visual Studio. Please please, some tutorial about how to use Visual Studio Community with Ionic!
Here it is …
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudio/archive/2015/05/18/building-mobile-apps-with-ionic-and-monaca.aspx
Ionic??
The template generates code for cordova 4.3 and ioinic 5 RC5…can you updated to cordova 5 and Ioinic 1 since Ioinic CLI already support it?
Should’ve gone with JetBrains!
Any tutorials for this??
I got error:

Doesn’t work in VS 2015 RC Version..Installed and while choosing Project template, VS keeps throwing error..”The project file “C:…..” cannot be opened. The project type is not supported by this installation”. If anyone has the same experience and found solutions, please share
Is it possible to integrate the ionic framework into the _online_ version of visual studio?
Is this template on GitHub? I would like to contribute some features…
I have a problem with ionic; I have this message =>
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)
user-agent (0,0). Please any one can help me?
I getting following error while running https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/4e44ba8b-a4c8-4106-b70e-00d63241a54a

Hey Popat –
“VSIXInstaller.NoApplicableSKUsException: This extension is not installable on any currently installed products.” means that these templates are not compatible with the Visual Studio Express 2015.
To fix your issues:
1) Install VS community 2015 for free from this page: https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/features/cordova-vs.aspx
2) Use these new templates: https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/4e44ba8b-a4c8-4106-b70e-00d63241a54a
This should resolve your issue 🙂
Ok thanks .. I have installed Professional edition, i’m good now .
Are you planning to integrate the http://blog.ionic.io/help-us-test-the-super-starter/ super starter of ionic as a vsix template and what is a timeframe for it?
