zebra-datawedge-integration

Today I’m excited to announce the addition of a new solution to Ionic’s official integration suite of native solutions: Zebra DataWedge. Powered by a simple, streamlined API, you can now integrate data captured from Zebra’s Android mobile computers with Capacitor-based Android apps.

Start using the solution today or read on for more details.

Why Zebra DataWedge?

Zebra builds solutions to help businesses optimize their inventory management workflows and operations to enable real-time decision making. Their portfolio includes specialty printing and supplies, barcode scanning, mobile computing and rugged tablets, RFID and real-time location systems (RTLS), intelligent workforce management and execution solutions, data services and prescriptive analytics, support managed and professional services, and intelligent automation systems.

Zebra DataWedge is a system service that exposes an API for integrating data captured by Zebra Android mobile computers into enterprise applications quickly. Information captured from any data source (including barcodes, camera, RFID, magnetic stripe readers, etc.) is formatted then transmitted to the specified applications. This helps automate data capture and collection, eliminate errors, and increase worker productivity.

The new Zebra DataWedge plugin from Ionic includes:
– Official Ionic integration with the most popular provider of enterprise inventory management tools.
– A simple, streamlined API that works in Capacitor-based Android apps together with Zebra Android mobile computers.
– Guaranteed SLA and helpdesk support, priority support and hotfixes, and peace of mind with ongoing support for the latest versions of Zebra DataWedge.

How It Works

Employees use Zebra mobile computers to gather and process data in the field. Using the on-device Zebra app, they configure where the gathered data is sent using “profiles.” Profile configurations include which apps the data should be sent to (using Android Intents) and the inputs that trigger the data transfer (such as barcode scanning, reading RFID tags, and more).

After integrating the Capacitor Zebra DataWedge plugin, your Capacitor app will be able to receive data from DataWedge. From there, the sky’s the limit in terms of what is done with it. More data processing can be performed, the data can be uploaded to another service via an API, stored in a database, and more.

For example, let’s say that an app user needs to determine where a particular product is in the warehouse. Upon scanning the product’s barcode, Zebra DataWedge sends it to a Capacitor app. The Capacitor app looks up the product using the barcode and displays the product information along with the location of the item (aisle A2, section 11).

Integrate Zebra DataWedge with your Capacitor apps today

If you are part of a team building mission-critical inventory management apps or looking to get the most out of your existing Zebra investment, look no further than Ionic’s DataWedge integration – the only officially supported offering for cross-platform applications. After integrating the DataWedge plugin into your Capacitor application, your team can get back to focusing on what matters – building solutions that delight your customers.
